BNEWS.ID – The swift response of the Nusa Penida Police Criminal Investigation Unit deserves praise. In less than 24 hours, officers successfully solved a theft case involving cash belonging to a Slovakian tourist staying at a bungalow in Sakti Village, Nusa Penida District, on Sunday (October 5, 2025).

The case began when the bungalow owner, I Wayan Sujana, reported the theft of money belonging to his guest, Lukas Baranek (30), a Slovakian national. The victim lost €400, equivalent to around IDR 7.8 million. The theft was discovered after the tourist returned from a day trip and found his previously messy room had been tidied up.

Following the report, Nusa Penida Police Chief AKP I Ketut Kesuma Jaya,  ordered the Criminal Investigation Unit led by IPTU I Putu Fery Seputra, to conduct a thorough investigation. Officers immediately processed the crime scene, questioned witnesses, and collected evidence.

The investigation led to a suspect identified as I K A P (18), a resident of Banjar Angas, Klumpu Village, Nusa Penida District. The young man was arrested on Monday (October 6, 2025) at around 11:50 a.m. local time at his residence. Police seized evidence in the form of euro banknotes, which the suspect admitted were proceeds from the theft.

“Our team acted swiftly and effectively,  the suspect was apprehended less than a day after the report was filed,” said AKP I Ketut Kesuma Jaya on Monday (October 6, 2025). He emphasized that the quick resolution of the case reflects the Nusa Penida Police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of tourists visiting the island.

The case has been officially registered under Police Report No. LP/B/19/X/2025/SPKT/POLSEK NUSA PENIDA/POLDA BALI. The suspect and the evidence are now secured at the Nusa Penida Police headquarters for further legal processing.

Authorities hope the case serves as a reminder for locals and tourism operators in Nusa Penida to remain vigilant and help maintain tourists’ trust in the island’s safety as a prime travel destination. (*)
