BNEWSID – Community-based tourism has once again proven its strength. Undisan Tourism Village in Tembuku District, Bangli Regency, has drawn national and international attention after one of its accommodations, De Klumpu Bali, won the Tri Hita Karana Tourism Award (Gold Category).
The achievement confirms that tourism villages built on local community empowerment are capable of competing with major tourism hubs in Bali, even on a global level.
Owner of De Klumpu Bali, I Putu Winastra, said the award was earned after a rigorous assessment process conducted by independent assessors who directly reviewed the implementation of sustainable tourism practices in Undisan Tourism Village.
“Today, De Klumpu Bali received the Tri Hita Karana Tourism Award in the Gold category. The assessors evaluated how we apply the Tri Hita Karana philosophy by maintaining harmony between people, nature, and God,” Winastra said.
He explained that the Tri Hita Karana concept is not merely symbolic, but is practiced consistently in daily operations. De Klumpu Bali is committed to environmental conservation while ensuring that economic benefits are directly felt by the local community.
“The assessment was not only about environmental management, but also about how we employ local residents, contribute to the surrounding community, and take part in educational initiatives,” he added.
De Klumpu Bali also actively implements Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, particularly village-based waste management. Organic waste is independently processed through composting systems and the application of modern teba as an environmentally friendly solution.
“We manage and sort organic waste, carry out composting, and develop modern teba. This is part of our commitment as a village-based accommodation that consistently protects nature and the environment,” said Putu Winastra, who also serves as the Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan for Bali.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the award sends a strong message that tourism villages possess quality and competitiveness equal to established tourism centers.
“This proves that villages are ready to compete internationally. Tourism products from villages are no less competitive than those from major tourism destinations,” he stressed.
The award is expected to inspire other tourism villages across Bali to continue developing people-centered, sustainable, culturally rooted, and environmentally conscious tourism.
